WordPress – Spam Protection

In this lesson, we will discuss Spam Protection in WordPress. Make sure your WordPress should be updated to latest version. WordPress has built in feature for spam protection. WordPress allows users to comments on your blogs. But unfortunately, most of the comments are target by the spammers. It will increase your site resource usage and also hurts your blog by negetively affect your search engine ranking. So here we will discuss how we can protect our blog or website from spammers.

Akismet Anti-Spam is very popular and preinstalled plugin that comes with WordPress. We can easily customize this plugin to protect your blog for spammers. Here we will use this plugin for antispam solution.

Find below-mentioned points to enable Akismet Anti-Spam plugin in WordPress.

Step (1) − Navigate to Plugins > Installed Plugins section from your wp-admin panel.

Step (2) − Here you can see Akismet Anti-Spam plugin listed there. Click on Activate option.

Step (3) − Your plugin will be activated. Click on Set up your Akismet account as shown in the screenshot:

Step (4) − Click on Get your API key button to get a new key. If you have already a key, then enter in the field as shown in the screenshot:

Step (5) − A new tab opens, GET AN AKISMET API KEY to proceed further.

Step (6) − Fill up the required fields and click on Sign Up as shown in the screenshot:

Step (7) − Fill up the required fields and click on Sign Up as shown in the screenshot:

Step (8) – You got a confirmation message of activation if you entered a right key.

Step (9) – You blog is now protected from spammers. Now you can check your comments for spam.
