In this Lesson, we will discuss how we can configure general settings in WordPress. General settings are used to set basic configuration of your site. It is used to contain multiple sub-panels as well as WordPress plugins and their setting page as a menu of setting tab. We can easily customize and manage settings according to our need. So let’s get started.
Following are the steps to access the general settings −
Step1 – Log in to the dashboard. and Click on Settings → General option in WordPress.
Step 2 − You will see The General Setting page like below screenshot.
Following are the details of setting page.
Site Title -This field displays the name of the site in the website header and in the Title Meta tag.
Tagline − It displays a short sentence on your site. It also shows in the Title Meta Tag.
Like we place “abc” in the Site title and “testing” in the Tagline field, then complete title Meta tag will look like this
<title>abc | testing</title>
WordPress Address (URL) – It display website URL. We don’t need to change it. When we install WordPress then it saves website URL in this filed.
E-mail Address − In this field we place any email Id for admin notifications.
Site Address (URL) – It is same as WordPress Address URL. We don’t need to change it. WordPress automatically saves Website address in this field.
Membership − Anyone can register an account on the website after you check this checkbox.
New User Default Role − The default role is set to the newly registered user or members.
Site Language − In this field we can change admin panel language. If you don’t know English then you can change the language to this field.
Timezone − Here you can Set the time zone based on the particular city.
Date Format − Here you can Set the Date Format.
Time Format – In this field, you can set Time Format.
Week Starts On – Select the weekday which you prefer to start for WordPress calendar. By default, it is set as for Monday.
Step3 − After filling any information about general settings, click on Save Changes button. It saves all your general settings.
